More information from Virginia Metalcrafters:
The Sarah Coke candlesticks are adapted from archeological fragments found at the Coke-Garrett site in Colonial Williamsburg. The original candlesticks were made of brass, however, they broke due to the delicate nature of their design. Unlike the antique, our version has been reworked to withstand the test of time. The antique was unearthed in the layer of soil that dates to the time that the site was owned by the Coke family. John Coke was a goldsmith and Tavern keeper. He died in 1767 at which time his wife Sarah continued to operate the tavern. The fragments of the antique are housed in the archeological offices of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Since 1890, timeless designs created by pouring molten metals into hand made sand molds. Foundrymen and metalsmiths superbly handcrafted today's classics as well as reproduce the important masterpieces from the 18th Century from America's finest museums & restorations. From metal ingot come the many extraordinary products made by the hands of American craftsmen, proud to be 200 years behind the times.
