Did you know that Abercrombie & Fitch was founded in 1909? It was originally a catalog company selling outdoor gear to campers, fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts?
This Handwarmer is likely from the 1960's.
This Handwarmer Set is like new and has never been used. It includes the original instructions, pieces of the original box, the warmer itself, a replacement item, a filling tub and a velvet pouch. The idea is you fill this warmer with benzine or lighter fluid, light the unit, stick it in the velvet pouch and keep it in your pockets to warm your hands with.
I am going to go ahead and suggest this is for decorative use only. The instructions mention there is asbestos (?!?) involved in this product. Safety regulations have improved quite a bit over the last 60 years.
From the instructions:
Radiation Principle of the "Original" Pocket Hand Warmer: The radiation principle of the Pocket Hand Warmer applies the principle of physics and chemistry. When the fuel vaporizes and penetrates the platinum asbestos in the burner, heat is generated by catalysis. Temperature is maintained at the same level from the beginning of the generation of heat until the exhaustion of fuel. Simple and Safe.
